Murfreesboro, TN – Barrett Firearms Manufacturing, Inc. has released stunning new artist impressions of its future-focused complex, with a nostalgic nod to the rifle that helped make the company world famous.

The new renderings showcase the scale of Stage 1 of the $76.4 million Barrett Manufacturing and Technology Campus (BMTC) which is set to open in early 2027.

Heavy machinery has been busy on the 170-acre site at 8808 Manchester Pike for the past few months, beginning the process of transforming it into a global firearms manufacturing center of excellence and the North American headquarters of parent company the NIOA Group.

The first stage will feature corporate offices, R&D capabilities, state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment and processes, secure warehouse and centralized logistics spread over 250,000 square feet.

In a tribute to the company’s rich heritage, the muzzle-brake entry foyer was modeled on Barrett’s iconic Model 82 rifle which is also the official state rifle of Tennessee.

The Model 82 was founder Ronnie Barrett’s first military contract back in 1989 and is now used by military and law enforcement agencies all over the world.

Barrett CEO Bryan James said the design reflected both the company’s forward momentum and deep respect for its past.   “When we briefed the architect we wanted more than just a state-of-the art shiny new building – we wanted something that would remind our people, partners and community of the innovation that set us on this path while making a bold statement for  the future of Tennessee manufacturing,” he said.  “We think these designs capture exactly that – a world-class, next generation facility that also symbolizes the legacy that has shaped Barrett for more than four decades.  We are proud to share these first images with our staff, customers and the community that has supported us from the beginning.”

The ceremony marking the beginning of construction of the Barrett Manufacturing & Technology Campus (BMTC) and NIOA North American Headquarters, was attended by a host of dignitaries including Tennessee Governor Bill Lee, Senator for Tennessee, the Honorable Marsha Blackburn, Tennessee Economic and Community Development (TNECD) Commissioner Stuart McWhorter, Rutherford County Mayor Joe Carr and Murfreesboro Mayor Shane McFarland, industry leaders, company executives and staff.

The BMTC will be the NIOA Group’s global center of excellence for firearms and advanced military weapons manufacturing and research capabilities. The ceremony was held today in conjunction with TNECD.

The $76.4 million project creates a 170-acre campus at 8808 Manchester Pike, not far from the company’s original headquarters where it has proudly operated for more than four decades. It marks the most significant investment in Barrett’s history and reflects the NIOA Group’s long-term commitment to advanced manufacturing and local jobs in Rutherford County.

Barrett has built a legendary reputation for its craftmanship and innovation in large caliber long-range superiority over 40 years and is a trusted supplier to US and allied militaries worldwide. This new facility described as “the factory of the future” will continue that story of innovation, research and development and precision military manufacturing to produce the next generation of advanced soldier fired weapon systems.

Stage 1 of the BMTC includes corporate headquarters, R&D capabilities, large scale state-of-the-art manufacturing and first floor office area spread over more than 250,000 square feet. The expansion will double the Barrett workforce over the next five years and enable the company to meet growing worldwide demand for its commercial and defense products.

Barrett CEO Bryan James said the new facility represented a bold step forward and a long-term commitment to the company’s heritage in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

“As a locally founded business, we’re proud to invest once again in the place that has shaped our success as a global leader serving both the commercial and military markets,” Mr. James said.

“This project not only underscores our commitment to the region, supporting hundreds of local jobs, but it’s a significant investment in our people, our customers and our capabilities.”

Mr. James thanked TNECD and the wider community for their strong support of the project, recognizing its potential to create skilled jobs for the region.

NIOA Group executive chairman and chairman of the Barrett board, Rob Nioa, said the new facility would serve as the NIOA Group’s global firearms and advanced military weapons manufacturing center of excellence.

“Tennessee is a firearms and ammunition industry powerhouse. As we look ahead to global growth, we are excited to be building the factory of the future right here,” Mr. Nioa said.

“This is a strategic investment that will give us the scale, technology and capacity to meet the evolving demands of our customers and defense partners worldwide.”

Construction of the BMTC is expected to be completed by February 2027 with operations to begin soon after.

MARS Inc. and Barrett’s PGS submission for U.S. Army’s xTech.

The xTech program was an incredible demonstration of the strength and capabilities of the Barrett team to collaborate with like minded companies to achieve what many thought unachievable in the given time frame. As part of that journey, Barrett worked closely with small business innovator MARS Inc to bring their technology to life, AMTEC Corp to develop an entirely new family of 30mm shoulder fired munitions, and Precision Targeting to provide a fire control system customized for the AMTEC ammunition. This new ammunition family will have the full spectrum of capabilities required to achieve the US Army’s mission to provide over match on the modern battlefield. This includes, Programmable Air Bursting High Explosive (HE), Proximity Fuzed and Point Detonating HE, as well as a Close Quarter Battle Round.

The announcement was made formally by the Department of Tennessee Economic and Community Development (TNECD) earlier today.

The $76.4 million campus-style industrial precinct, to be known as the Barrett Manufacturing & Technology Campus (BMTC), will be capable of designing, developing, manufacturing, testing, sustaining and distributing Barrett’s expanding range of world-class products.

It will be constructed on a 170-acre greenfield site in the company’s Murfreesboro TN heartland and less than a mile from the current base at which Barrett has become a global leader.

The expansion will double the Barrett workforce over the next five years and enable the company to meet growing worldwide demand for its commercial and defense products.

The facility is planned to open in early 2027.

The announcement was made by Tennessee Governor Bill Lee, Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Stuart C. McWhorter and Barrett Firearms Manufacturing Inc.

“We thank the Department of Tennessee Economic and Community Development for their vision and for their shared enthusiasm in this growth opportunity in our State,” Barrett CEO Bryan James said.

“This is a significant investment in growing Barrett’s capabilities for the future while underscoring our long-term commitment to the company’s Murfreesboro, Tennessee heartland.

Stage 1 of the BMTC, with a total floor area of approximately 250,000 square feet, features an on-site cafeteria, multi-use auditorium, conference and training rooms, outdoor meeting areas, and R&D facilities including state-of-the-art testing ranges and laboratory space.

The Barrett M107 has been an integral part of the U.S. Armed Forces’ long-range arsenal for more than two decades, delivering unmatched firepower, accuracy, and reliability in the field.

The MK 22 represents the culmination of Barrett’s dedication to innovation and collaboration with the Department of Defense. Originally developed through a Special Operations Command contract, the MK 22 transitioned to the Marine Corps via the “Special Operations Forces (SOF) to service” process, with contracting led by the U.S. Army. This seamless interservice cooperation enabled the Marine Corps to achieve FOC a full year ahead of schedule, delivering critical capability enhancements to warfighters sooner.

Barrett designed the MK 22 to be a complete system, providing soldiers with an integrated solution tailored for operational efficiency. Each rifle kit includes three barrels, a hard and soft carrying case, 15 magazines, a cleaning and tool kit, a sound suppressor, optic with scope mount, and mission-specific components such as a scout sniper tripod kit and anti-reflection device.

“The MK 22 consolidates what was previously two rifles into a single platform, lightening the Marine’s load while improving logistical efficiency,” Mr. James said. “The ability to conduct caliber conversions in the field ensures that Marines are equipped for any mission, anytime, anywhere.”

Another key advantage of the MK 22 is its sustainability. Maintenance is streamlined, with most repairs now performed at the organizational level. In the rare event of a barrel failure, the rifle can quickly be reconfigured to a different caliber, ensuring continuous operational readiness – an improvement that was unattainable with previous systems.
