MURFREESBORO, TN – Barrett Firearms Manufacturing Inc. has unveiled the next iteration of its 30mm Precision Grenadier System (PGS).

The latest modification (Mod) of the revolutionary weapon was showcased at the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) exposition in Washington DC last week.

Barrett and MARS Inc were selected in May as the winners of the xTech Soldier Lethality Competition in support of the U.S. Army’s Precision Grenadier System (PGS) program.

The PGS is a portable, shoulder fired, semi-automatic, magazine fed grenade rifle.   It includes an integrated armament system (weapon, ammunition, fire control) that enables rapid, precision engagements to destroy targets in defilade and Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) targets at close range.

Barrett has also revealed it is developing a vehicle mounted remote weapon system (RWS) option which will enable the weapon to be utilized in multiple combat scenarios.

  • The Mod 0 is planned for release in 2026. It will have an advanced disturbed reticle fire control system (FCS), five-round semi-automatic fire, a recoil dampening system, and four supported ammunition types. This provides many solutions for effective engagement on the battlefield.
  • The Mod 1 is planned for release in 2027. It will build upon the Mod 0 capabilities, while enhancing CUAS effectiveness. This Mod 1 will have an advanced FCS and proximity fuzed ammunition to increase probability of kill on CUAS.
  • The Mod 2 will deliver the required capability of the US Army program of record PGS. This will include Mod 0 and Mod 1 capability alongside further advances in FCS, improving probability of lethality, target engagement/ handoff and HE air-burst capability to provide a true squad level counter defilade munition.

Barrett CEO Bryan James said: “Announcing these new products at AUSA was the perfect opportunity to showcase how Barrett is utilizing an evolving capability model with upgradable technologies to enhance the operational effectiveness of U.S. and allied forces across all domains.”

Cameron Fraser, Barrett’s Program Manager PGS, said: “Barrett continues to rapidly develop the PGS system based on the Picatinny Arsenal requirements to enhance lethality on the modern battlefield. The modular design approach provides immediate capability that is upgradable as technology advances”.

“The philosophy follows the US Army’s goal to evolve capability to provide an upgradeable solution that can accept technologies as they mature.  The PGS will be domestically and internationally available to US-State Department approved customers.”

MURFREESBORO, TN – The NIOA Group has officially broken ground on its new Barrett Firearms facility, heralding a new era in weapon systems manufacturing for Tennessee.

The ceremony marking the beginning of construction of the Barrett Manufacturing & Technology Campus (BMTC) and NIOA North American Headquarters, was attended by a host of dignitaries including Tennessee Governor Bill Lee, Senator for Tennessee, the Honorable Marsha Blackburn, Tennessee Economic and Community Development (TNECD) Commissioner Stuart McWhorter, Rutherford County Mayor Joe Carr and Murfreesboro Mayor Shane McFarland, industry leaders, company executives and staff.

The BMTC will be the NIOA Group’s global center of excellence for firearms and advanced military weapons manufacturing and research capabilities. The ceremony was held today in conjunction with TNECD.

The $76.4 million project creates a 170-acre campus at 8808 Manchester Pike, not far from the company’s original headquarters where it has proudly operated for more than four decades. It marks the most significant investment in Barrett’s history and reflects the NIOA Group’s long-term commitment to advanced manufacturing and local jobs in Rutherford County.

Barrett has built a legendary reputation for its craftmanship and innovation in large caliber long-range superiority over 40 years and is a trusted supplier to US and allied militaries worldwide. This new facility described as “the factory of the future” will continue that story of innovation, research and development and precision military manufacturing to produce the next generation of advanced soldier fired weapon systems.

Stage 1 of the BMTC includes corporate headquarters, R&D capabilities, large scale state-of-the-art manufacturing and first floor office area spread over more than 250,000 square feet. The expansion will double the Barrett workforce over the next five years and enable the company to meet growing worldwide demand for its commercial and defense products.

Barrett CEO Bryan James said the new facility represented a bold step forward and a long-term commitment to the company’s heritage in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

“As a locally founded business, we’re proud to invest once again in the place that has shaped our success as a global leader serving both the commercial and military markets,” Mr. James said.

“This project not only underscores our commitment to the region, supporting hundreds of local jobs, but it’s a significant investment in our people, our customers and our capabilities.”

Mr. James thanked TNECD and the wider community for their strong support of the project, recognizing its potential to create skilled jobs for the region.

NIOA Group executive chairman and chairman of the Barrett board, Rob Nioa, said the new facility would serve as the NIOA Group’s global firearms and advanced military weapons manufacturing center of excellence.

“Tennessee is a firearms and ammunition industry powerhouse. As we look ahead to global growth, we are excited to be building the factory of the future right here,” Mr. Nioa said.

“This is a strategic investment that will give us the scale, technology and capacity to meet the evolving demands of our customers and defense partners worldwide.”

Construction of the BMTC is expected to be completed by February 2027 with operations to begin soon after.

MURFREESBORO, TN – The U.S. Army has announced that the MARS Inc, Barrett team has been selected as the winner of the xTech Soldier Lethality competition.  In six months, this team of agile businesses were able to design, build, test, and demonstrate the effectiveness of a new 30mm grenade rifle system in support of the Army’s Precision Grenadier System (PGS) requirement.  PGS is a soldier portable, shoulder fired, semi-automatic, magazine fed, integrated armament system (weapon, ammunition, fire control) that enables rapid, precision engagements to destroy personnel targets in defilade and Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) targets at close range.  Both companies are proud to have the opportunity to provide this unique capability to the U.S. and allied war fighters.

MARS Inc. and Barrett’s PGS submission for U.S. Army’s xTech.

“For decades, Barrett has changed the battlefield with revolutionary systems like the shoulder fired semi-automatic .50 caliber Model 82 and its modern variants, as well as the MRAD MK 22 — the world’s most accurate multi-caliber sniper rifle,” said Bryan James, Barrett CEO. “These weapon systems are now supporting the U.S. and more than 80 allied nations around the world. With our focus now on the U.S. Army’s PGS initiative, we are committed to delivering another game changing advantage: a system with Programmable Air Bursting counter defilade and Counter-UAS capabilities designed to keep our troops safe and ensure mission success.”

The xTech program was an incredible demonstration of the strength and capabilities of the Barrett team to collaborate with like minded companies to achieve what many thought unachievable in the given time frame. As part of that journey, Barrett worked closely with small business innovator MARS Inc to bring their technology to life, AMTEC Corp to develop an entirely new family of 30mm shoulder fired munitions, and Precision Targeting to provide a fire control system customized for the AMTEC ammunition. This new ammunition family will have the full spectrum of capabilities required to achieve the US Army’s mission to provide over match on the modern battlefield. This includes, Programmable Air Bursting High Explosive (HE), Proximity Fuzed and Point Detonating HE, as well as a Close Quarter Battle Round.

“This award highlights not only our technical capabilities, but the power of partnership, agility, and a shared mission,” said Ryan Krantz, Barrett Vice President of Business Development & Sales. “We’re proud to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the U.S. Army to deliver the next leap forward in soldier lethality.”

Murfreesboro, TN — Barrett Firearms Manufacturing Inc. is proud to announce that the Marine Corps Systems Command has achieved Fully Operational Capability (FOC) for the MRAD® MK 22 Mod 0 Advanced Sniper Rifle (ASR) a year ahead of schedule.

The MK 22 represents the culmination of Barrett’s dedication to innovation and collaboration with the Department of Defense. Originally developed through a Special Operations Command contract, the MK 22 transitioned to the Marine Corps via the “Special Operations Forces (SOF) to service” process, with contracting led by the U.S. Army. This seamless interservice cooperation enabled the Marine Corps to achieve FOC a full year ahead of schedule, delivering critical capability enhancements to warfighters sooner.

“The MK 22 isn’t just another rifle; it’s a modular, mission-adaptable system that empowers the warfighter with unmatched precision and flexibility,” said Bryan James, CEO of Barrett. “We’re honored to contribute to this pivotal modernization effort for the U.S. Military and Marine Corps, and to support our nation’s elite forces.”

The MK 22 offers unparalleled versatility, with caliber conversion kits allowing for seamless transitions between 7.62mm, .300 Norma Magnum, and .338 Norma Magnum. This adaptability enhances the ability to engage targets with precision at extended ranges. Paired with the state-of-the-art M317 Precision Day Optic – a variable power optic providing a 7-35x magnification – the MK 22 delivers a significant leap forward in capability over legacy sniper systems.

Barrett designed the MK 22 to be a complete system, providing soldiers with an integrated solution tailored for operational efficiency. Each rifle kit includes three barrels, a hard and soft carrying case, 15 magazines, a cleaning and tool kit, a sound suppressor, optic with scope mount, and mission-specific components such as a scout sniper tripod kit and anti-reflection device.

“The MK 22 consolidates what was previously two rifles into a single platform, lightening the Marine’s load while improving logistical efficiency,” Mr. James said. “The ability to conduct caliber conversions in the field ensures that Marines are equipped for any mission, anytime, anywhere.”

Another key advantage of the MK 22 is its sustainability. Maintenance is streamlined, with most repairs now performed at the organizational level. In the rare event of a barrel failure, the rifle can quickly be reconfigured to a different caliber, ensuring continuous operational readiness – an improvement that was unattainable with previous systems.

“At Barrett Firearms, we are committed to equipping our armed forces with the tools they need to succeed in an ever-changing battlefield,” Mr. James said. “The MK 22 Mod 0 Advanced Sniper Rifle exemplifies our dedication to precision, innovation, and mission success. As the Marine Corps ushers in this new era of sniper capabilities, Barrett stands ready to support their efforts and the future fight.”

Barrett Firearms Manufacturing, Inc. is proud to announce a significant new contract with NATO-allied Norwegian Defense Materiel Agency (NDMA). The agreement enables the Norwegian Armed Forces to upgrade their existing Barrett Model 82A1 rifles, in service since 1999, to the more advanced model M107A1.

This move ensures that the Norwegian forces are equipped with the latest advancements in long-range firepower.”

This is an important step for NDMA and Barrett. The M107A1 is also suppressor capable, adding a critical feature for reducing the rifle’s signature in various operational environments.

This contract highlights the NDMA’s confidence in Barrett’s ability to deliver cutting-edge solutions that meet the rigorous standards of military use. The M107A1 will significantly enhance the Norwegian Armed Forces’ capabilities to engage targets at extreme ranges, destroy valuable enemy assets, and secure tactical advantages on the battlefield.

Mr James said: “Barrett is proud to partner with allied nations across the world. We all share the same dedication to excellence and continued improvement. Barrett has a long history in this field and we will continue to grow our relationships with our partners.”

The MRADELR is a high quality, military tested, off-the-shelf, extreme long-range system with user changeable barrels and calibers. Designed to deliver precision typically achieved only by custom-built rifles, this rifle expands the bolt-action, magazine-fed MRAD family to include 416 Barrett with additional large-caliber options to be available in the future. Boasting innovative technology, precision engineering, and exceptional materials, the MRADELR is yet another example of Barrett Firearms’ dedication to excellence.

Recently crowned the “Ballistic Best Editor’s Select” for the Best ELR Rifle, the MRADELR has demonstrated excellent precision and accuracy with its remarkable performance at the global King of 2 Miles competition earning a remarkable 2nd place finish as a production rifle competing primarily against custom builds. This rifle is poised to redefine the standards of long-range shooting, combining cutting-edge technology with precision engineering. With Barrett’s proven track record and recognition among the industry’s elite, their new MRADELR stands as a symbol of innovation and excellence, offering shooters an unrivaled experience in the world of extreme long-range marksmanship.
